Well, we're not psychic! Clue us in on some details ... pan shape, etc.

A TH350 has no external band adjustment, has a square pan with a corner cut out at a 45 degree angle, and above the cutout at the rear, facing rear, is a vacuum modulator.

A TH250 looks the same but has a band adjustment on the passenger side behind the bellhousing.

Re: Tranny Type.....

yup its a 350....i feel really stupid right now....i appreciate u guys help for all u have helped me with....but wut i jus noticed is gonna take the cake....i had the modulator valver hose goin to the port on the carb that the vacuum advance hose pose to go to...and vice versa.....i called this guy at jeg's and he informed me that having it hooked up like that would make it idle real high and eventually bog down and backfire thru the carb....do u all agree?

Re: Tranny Type.....

It wouldn't run right, but I really don't think that would cause it to pop through the carb.

Please refer to the other thread you posted for symptoms of backfiring. You can check the valves by running two tests - a vacuum test followed by a compression test. A bent or burned valve will show as a rapid needle fluctuation on a vacuum test, and low compression in one cylinder will confirm that along with the cylinder #.

However, it would have to be a burned intake valve and those just don't happen.

You're more looking at ignition/cam timing or a bad camshaft.
