2000 Camry LE needs new engine
The car is a 2000 Camry LE 2.2L 4 cylinder automatic engine 5S-FE, the engine blew recently for some odd reason, this car has been extremely reliable till this day. It never burned oil and the engine had under 95k and been checking it every few days. Now I need to change the engine and I don't feel that it would be hard since its a 4 cylinder. Im looking for engines now but if it could take a swap with a better toyota 4 cylinder I might do it if possible. But all I see is the 3S-FE which is a JDM 2.0 and don't know what cars that came from. But I need a OBD-2 engine for easy wiring and no problems when going for emissions testing, and thiers no replacement for displacement when torque is needed, 2.2 to a 2.0 not of my interest.

Re: 2000 Camry LE needs new engine
It had no oil, like the internals got loose or a headgasket leak, could of went out the exhaust through a cylinder, was being driven with the radio up so they couldnt tell sound. By the way I dont drive this car my parents do. And I change the oil myself ever 3,000 miles 5w-30 and been checking it every 4-7 days.

Re: 2000 Camry LE needs new engine
Read up on the sludge problem here:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=424744 Then pull the cam cover off the engine and look for sludge. If you find sludge, it may be worth having the car towed to a Toyota dealer for inspection and possible engine replacement with Toyota footing the bill. If you don't see sludge when you pull the cam cover off, you are probably out of luck. Good luck. Mike |
