1989 c1500 airaid intake

whats up guys. im installing an airaid intake in my 1989 c1500(my friend said its an easy install) and i ran into a problem. the kit included a hose that im supposed to connect from the back of the intake to the valve cover breather tube. but all i can find is a small air filter in the valve cover. would it be ok to install the intake without that connection? or would i be able to replace that filter with a breather tube? where do i get one? i like to "do it myself" but i am a little inexperienced sometimes. any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. thanks again!!
