Replacing oxygen sensor

Just wondering if anyone has done this on their villager. My CEL is on and the code points to an oxygen sensor (I unfortunately forgot to ask which one, downstream or upstream). I was hoping to do it myself but hoping someone can help.

Is there anyone who had changed their's? Any difficulties?

Any tips / step-by-step instructions would be great.

What year vehicle?

I would guess that it is the upstream sensor. What are your symptons?

Check the wires before removal of sensor removal. Warm engine, disconnect electrical connector, (exhaust will be hot) use a open end wrench or special 02 sensors socket to remove sensor. New sensor should have anti seize compund on it so you do not remove it before installing sensor.

It is a '99 Villager Estate. As it turns out, I was ready to drive back to get the code read again to find which sensor was triggering the result and the CEL was off as I turned on the car and has remained off.

I know that the sensors come as 1, 3, 4 wires (etc...), do you know which one I would need for the villager should the CEL return? Do I actually have to cut wires and splice them together or is there a plug type device?

Even tho your CEL went off the PCM will still have the codes stored unless the battery has been disconnected or they were cleared by a scanner. I would still get them read and that will tell you if it is upstream or downstream sensor.

From what I see on the Napaonline.com and autozone.com sites the upstream is a 3 wire sensor and the downstream is a 4 wire sensor. You can get either a plug and play sensor or a universal sensor that the wires would have to be connected. I recommend the plug and play style.
