I have a 1991 5.o lx cov. after the car is started I cant shift out of park, if I start the car in neutral then I can shift into drive but after the car is put back in park I have to restart the car in neutral anyone know what that might be?

Re: cant shift from park

It's the ignition-transmission interlock. Unless the ignition is turned on it can't be shifted out of park. If it isn't adjusted properly you won't be able to shift the car out of park once it is started. In addition to that I suspect the problem may be with the brake lights. As you probably already know the brake has to be depressed to shift it out of park. If the switch is faulty at the pedal you won't be able to. I guess Ford in all their wisdom decided to design a brake light system that will disable a car if it doesn't work. Save us from those that would protect us from ourselves.
