1996 -3t40 wire question

Hi group
I am having trouble with a 1996 3t40 transmission. problem started one day where heading out it seemed like it was missing at about 2.5 -3k sputteriing and going then cleared up ran good. code light came on momentarily the went off. thought it was water in gass.Next time I was getting on throughway seemed to stick in 2nd. ran up to 60 or 65 backed down droped in to 2 manulaly then into drive it shifted. but then stalled when i slowed down. got home eventually, thought torque convert wasn't locking. read code this time said trans componet slipping. have been reading forum tried disconecting t convert wires no difference. Is it possible the that the shift body switches in valve body could be receiving bad signals? acording to the tag it is a 3t40 what i am wandering is that where the shift controle cable enters the transmission there are two conectors of wires one looks like it has 5 wires with one being a larger yellow collor the other looks to be a 4 wire conection. do these go to any other controle modules on engine why I ask the car has been setting for a while when i started it today. It takes an increase in rpm for it to engage the trans also when in neutral it seems to hit the rev lmit at about a quarter of the throtle. does any of this make sense to any one? What Iam trying to say is could it be something other than internal in trans? ps millage is only 89000. Thanks for any help.

Re: 1996 -3t40 wire question

your right 3t40 is your unit its also known as the TH125C. there is a throttle valve in the valvebody that works obviously with your throttle. the more gas you give it the further it pushesd the throttle plunger in. i work in a transmission shop. not only do i build them but im always rebuilding the valve bodies. if that valve sticks then its not going to let u up shift. that valvebody also has the pump built into it, as one unit. easy ways to check your trans is obviously look at the fluid make sure its red. it wont be bright red, it will be darker cause of the clutch material, as long as there is no metal ur good. also you can manualy put it into each gear at a stand still. if it ingauges and coasts in whatever direction u have it in then your clutches should be good. manual first, manual second, reverse, drive, etc

Re: 1996 -3t40 wire question

Let me tell you my experience...my 2000 with the 3t40 had the CEL with the trans component slippage code, but everything seemed fine as I drove it. To make a long story short, if you look down past the battery, you'll see a connector on the tranny with two wires. This goes to your TCC solenoid. I had a broken wire at the connector. One pin in the connector should have 12 volts whenever the key is on, and the other is the ground for the circuit (as long as power is going through the coil on the solenoid and the pressure switch is "made"). If the pressure switch or the solenoid are bad, the other wire in the connector won't light up your test light. The trick is to meet the conditions when the TCC is allowed to engage...faster than 35mph, in gear, etc. With the car on jackstands, you could meet the conditions to test the function of the TCC circuit. Just be careful if you do this.

Re: 1996 -3t40 wire question

i asked a guy i work with and he said the shifter cable is good for fraying and after a while when you put into gear the manualvalve is not lined up right and it will leak into the next partition. if it does that then your pressure will be to low. case connestor is a 5 prong and the connector with 4 should be your lockup delay wire harness
