Ok so as we all know as I've had the problem the past 4 years, when it gets cold, my battery dies over and over again. It jumps fine, runs great, but won't hold a charge when cold. Battery is new 3 times over and voltage gauge shows charging.
So last night I went out and jumped it as usual. She was under a sheet of ice so it took a while but I jumped her and for the first time EVER, the battery light turned on! The only time that light has ever turned on is when starting the car up, but never been on while actually running. Finally, somewhere! So the car ran fine. I drove 4 blocks to my parents house, shut it off, and couldn't start. Cranked but not enough power to start. That's normal. After rejumping it again, ran fine, but with no battery light for the rest of the night. Actually started right up everytime afterward. So, what does the battery light mean and how does it tie in with my problem? I'm glad it finally gave me something to look into.

Re: Battery dying in winter... update
Its technically called the "Charging System" light Dave
I still think it may be your alternator. Maybe the alternator getting cld has something to do with it?

Re: Battery dying in winter... update
The light means that the voltage has dropped below 11v or something like that. Which would mean your alternator is bad or maybe the voltage regulator is bad. Whatever it is its only bad in cold weather.

Re: Battery dying in winter... update
It was still showing 13.5 on the gauge though the whole time. Where's the voltage regulator at?

Re: Battery dying in winter... update
I believe ours is built into the alternator

Re: Battery dying in winter... update
yea, its your alternator. its finally giving you codes. go to autozone. not only can they pull the codes out for free, but also can check your battery levels and alternator output levels too (free as well)
