Hasegawa Nissan R89C

Anyone ever seen this version of the kit:

Must admit that's a new one to me though it clearly appears to have been out of production for quite some time.

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

Hasegawa has certainly been known to occasionally throw in some resin, PE or white metal parts (and/or new decals) into a preexisting kit for a limited run special- but usually they've done it with aircraft kits. Looks like it was probably a spectacular kit with the engine godies- but good luck finding one now. I kinda doubt they're likely to reissue it.

The last time I've seen one on eBay it was sold for 50€. A good price for the detail level it offers.

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

Can't say that I've seen one of these but did have the "High Grade" version of the Williams FW14. It didn't seem to be all that much better than the regular plastic version. I have built the Tamiya version which also has full engine detail and it is an excellent kit. There are some very nice photo etch sheets available as well.

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

I bought this kit from ebay, cost was US$ 120 and it really worth the money. However I don't know when I will build it.

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

My LHS has both Nissan R89C and Williams FW14 for 60 bucks a piece. I am still debating whether should I buy it or not.

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

Well I 've got one stashed somewhere , and let me tell you , I wouldnt part with it for 50$ or 70$. It might be a reworking of the regular kit , but the metal parts are high quality, nothing like the gunze high techs! The Hasegawa dealer here in Athens used to sell them for 115 Euros (back when they had them that is) so that kind of gives you an idea of their true value. Anyway , for 70$ I 'd buy anoter one of this series. The one I 'd give my left hand for though would have to be the Toyota 2000GT with full engine detail! I want one sooooo much. Well I can always dream...

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

I decided to pull the trigger and bought this R89C from my LHS for USD 60 (cheap considering the same kit went for 100+20 shipping.

Box art

White metal parts comes in a neat box

It has some coolant hoses and wires, along with blue seatbelt material

The PE for linkage suspension is thicker than regular PE

Two decal sheets for car number 23 and 24

I noticed that Hasegawa body shells is different than Tamiya's. Hasegawa's have sills on top of the front fenders, and the sills are nice and crisp

I like that they molded the body parts in white plastic (easier painting)

Seat is nicely textured

Chassis, radiator, etc

One and only disappointment is for the brakes. The brakes have no calipers!! (apparently Hasegawa decided that Group C cars need no brakes). I might just have to replace that. The wheels are nice and includes molded valve stems (the valve stems however are a bit too large in scale)

All in all a very nice kit with crisp and smooth white metal. All of the plastic parts are perfectly molded (tamiya-like quality). I think it would make a perfect kit, if combined with Tamiya's, SMS PE, S27 PE, and SMS CF.

Re: Hasegawa Nissan R89C

Do you know if there are any differences between the engine parts in this kit and the ones in the Tamiya version?
