Trouble with crankshaft pulley
I'm getting pretty far into the repair I'm doing but have hit a wall with the crankshaft pulley. Manual says to use a chain wrench to hold it but I don't have one. Is there any other technique/trick to keeping it still while I remove the four bolts? Also, what do I need for these bolts? I've put a couple of ratchets on them but they want to round off. Thanks

Re: Trouble with crankshaft pulley
Water pump pliers, large channel locks, or a big pipe wrench. What are you doing? I'm trying to think what 4 bolts you are talking about. To remove the crank pulley, I had to break the crank bolt...
Which engine/yr? If it is a 4 cyl and stick, you put it in high gear with the brake applied. 4 cyl and auto, remove the starter and wedge a large screwdriver in the ring gear teeth. That is from my Haynes. It suggests a 1/2" breaker bar and 6 point socket as the bolt is tight. Guess you knew that, though! It then says to use a puller which applies force to the hub of the dampener, rather than the outside edge, to remove the pulley.

Re: Trouble with crankshaft pulley
it's a E10 star/inverse torque socket.
