"Gate Ajar" light on

The other day I decided to take off the back trim panel on the rear hatch to see why my washer fluid wasn't working. I quickly found the hose had separated and put it back together. While I had a view of the internals of the door I decided to see if I could fix my lift/glass as it hasn't opened since I owned it. I worked the arm that unlocks the window and found the latch stuck. I got it working and sprayed it good with WD40 and it opens like a charm. The next day I noticed my "gate ajar" light was on as well as the domelight and my wiper didn't work (which I later read is deactivated when the "gate ajar" light comes on) . Now I have no wiper and I must override the dome lights.
Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem ? This never happened until I fixed the lift glass. Everything- lift glass, rear hatch, is closed tight. I took apart the wire connectors and sprayed all plug blades with contact spray but it didn't fix it. I'm not sure where the sensor is located. Is there a way to bypass the sensor ?

Thanks for any help !

Doesn't the dome light have a little rocker switch on the housing?

Re: "Gate Ajar" light on

The dome light has an override button where the light controls are on the dash. The light stays on when the "gate ajar" is activated. It can only be turned off in this state by pushing the dome light override button. I'd like to bypass the sensor to make the idiot light go out for now until I can get it fixed. I'm not sure why this happened after fixing the lift glass .

So the rear domelight near the lift gate doesn't have a little rocker switch that can be left on?
I'll check my '97 manual in the morning, it's in my young'uns room.

Re: "Gate Ajar" light on

Not that I know of. Mine is a 99. I was reading that it is part of the workings of the gate ajar activation. All the inside lamps stay on until you hit the override button (or close the gate). Everything is on just like you opened the door.

Re: "Gate Ajar" light on

The manual shows an Endgate Jamb Switch but I don't remember seeing one like it on my '97 unless it's under the trim, inside the endgate/liftgate. It kinda looks like the front door switch.
