slipping clutch
well, my clutch was slipping today on my way to work this morning... i was in 5th and stepped on it... everything was dandy untill boost hit, at abput 20psi, the rpms went up way faster then the speed... lol like, way! so... i need a new clutch. anyone recomend anything? i wanted to go with the 2600 ACT 6puck sprung, but i remember a while back reading threads about the springs falling out of act clutches and jacking up the brand new clutch... not to mention i want to be sure i pick the right clutch because i dont want to much weight on the throw out bearing... remeber i'm running a 7-bolt....
i was looking for those zoom clutches, but cant seem to find any for the DSM, 100000's for chevys, and others, but no dsm... maybe you could help me out with this silver?? also, want to look at the pros and cons of doing a lightweight flywheel while i'm replacing the clutch. i've never looked into this before, so any and all help is greatly appreciated (or however you spell it!)

Re: slipping clutch
They make zoom clutches for your car. I got one, and I love it. I got the stage 2 sprung 4 puck. Ordered it from Advance Auto parts.

Re: slipping clutch
I already told you this but just want to make it official
The act 2600 sprung 6 puck has been the best clutch I have ever had in the car. Far superior to the exedy cerametallic and act 2100 with street disc. Has enough clamping force for 400hp and price and driveability are also very good. I have not had any problems with the springs coming out. I have had this clutch for about 1 year of driving time (not including storage etc) and about 20, 000kms. Its still kinda young but it acts the same as it did the day i got it. I have no experience with zoom clutches.

i guess i will look into the 2600 act... i just hope this isnt a clutch that will cause my 7-bot to take a hike...(C/W) but i guess if you are running it steviek for as long as you say, it'll probably be fine, because my car probably wont see the drag strip for a long while! can anyone compair the zoom clutches to the act 2600 sprung 6-puck? anyone have any input on the flywheel? worth it? pros/cons to an aftermarket one? suggestions? |

Re: slipping clutch
I read a lot about the pros and cons of a lightweight flywheel when my stock clutch went one me. There are tons of different opinions but most concluded that it revs faster because it's lighter but slows down spinning faster unlike the stock heavier one that will keep spinning due to it being heavier with momentum. I just had my stock flywheel resurfaced and saved some money...

edit: are you required to have it resurfaced??? because then that means the car has to go in the shop for the clutch! |

Re: slipping clutch
I had mine resurfaced. It always helps. I bought my clutch kit from extremepsi.com they had a nice package sale with the disc hmm let me see if they still have it,
http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...cat=985&page=1 pretty good price too. The kit does not have oem feel for the clutch pedal pressure it really bounces back. I like it more to be honest and my other buddy who has stock clutch likes the feel of mine better too. But I suppose it is all a matter of preference but you will get used to it. I have a 7 bolt too

Re: slipping clutch
as mine aswell. The clutch only takes a couple hours. It shouldn't be in the shop for longer than a day. jUst like book your time in advance so that they know its coming in since its not that pressing of a matter you can do it when its convenient for you.
I mean the labour is just what they want to charge you for it I don't know if you have a shop that is cheap and reputable or what.

Re: slipping clutch
You are also fwd. Your tires are going to break loose way before your clutch will start slipping. Thats if you install a decent performance clutch.
