Re: overheating, code 35-cant find fan relay 1996
On my 97 the fan control goody is called the 'Pulse Width Module'. It is located in front of and below the battery, and to the right of the radiator (That is, on the drivers side of the car). Its bolted to the vertical metal part of the cars structure at the front side of the engine compartment. It may be hard to see because of the air ducting that comes to the front of the battery tray. There is a also screw-in sensor in that area: Its the battery temperature sensor. The PWM is lower down.
The fan will run for 2 reasons: 1. It gets turned on when the coolant temperature sensor tells the PCM the coolant has gotten hot enough. 2. It will also run anytime the air conditioning compressor is running. But if you a.c. is low enough on freon, the a.c. compressor wont run. If so the fan wont come on when you turn on the a.c. switch, but it is still supposed to run when the coolant gets hot enough. Also the fans can run faster or slower, as the PCM decides. To replace the PWM I would probably remove the battery and the battery tray for better access. I dont know if it would be necessary to remove the closest radiator fan in order to have room to work there. |

!But I do agree about the location on the "relay".
