Mustang Throttle bodies

now i was with a friend talking about stuff to do to our dsm's and he brought up the Magnus intakes and stuff so i went to their site to check them out. Now unfortunately they dont make intake manifolds for the 420a(which is the engine i have). But they sell Mustang TB's seperatly as a DIY kind of thing. So most of us have heard of the 420a owners that take TB's from a Jeep and put in their 420a's. So i was wondering, since their can be such a switch with the 420a's throttle body, if the Mustang throttle body Magnus sells, which is about 40 bucks, could be able to go onto the intake manifold of the 420a. They also sell it with the TPS sensor if needed too. Can i get some input, what do you guys think, is it worth a try?

well in about a few weeks or so my car is going to be out of service because i am taking the engine out to do some modifications. I will be rebuilding it gettin it ready for turbo and stuff and the TB was just a thought you kno since everything was gonna be out why not do that to i mean cuz it would be so easy to do it since everything would be out of the car!
And since its just $40, i was thinking mayb it just might work it i tried and if not, sell it and try to make a profit
So im just asking, do you think i should give it a shot? I think it would be the **** if i could get this to work!

Re: Mustang Throttle bodies

I have never heard or anyone using a mustang throttle body on a 420a motor. I would not suggest it either unless you are going to make a custom manifold that will bolt up to it. Just do the 60mm jeep throttle body mod.

Yea thats what i thought but im kinda confused about how to install the jeep TB. I mean does any jeep TB work or does it have to be from a certain jeep from a certain year. I have a friend with a 1999 Cherokee and he said he would gladly give me his TB for free if i help him find an aftermarket TB for him, and i dont know why he needs one but im not about to pass on this deal lol. Like i hear people that say after they finish getting the TB on, they turn on their car and their idle is crazy! Then they have to spend time fixing w/e the problem is to get the idle back to normal. So i was looking for someone that could tell me what not to do so that i wouldnt run into this problem, or at least try to avoid it. I kno that i probly will run into this problem but o well from what i hear its all worth it. But again its just a thought about the mustang TB, i expected people to say it probly wouldnt work. I dont see why i couldnt try i mean i dont see a difference except the size.

Re: Mustang Throttle bodies

There used to be a great article on the jeep tb's that i have as a favorite, but now the link is dead. And about the mustang tb, do you know how big that thing is? 75mm. I don't even think you could make it fit the 420a if you wanted too, it's too big. I have one on the motor for the talon and I can damn near put my hand through it.

so your saying you got it done right...is the intake manifold on the GSX any different other than it points the opposite way?

Re: Mustang Throttle bodies

Hes got a SMIM that is made specially for having a 75mm throttle body.

In all reality man, you have no business with a 75mm tb until you are running one monstrosity of a turbo. In my honest (but unsure) opinion, I dont think there is even a reason to go to a 60mm until you get a decent sized turbo on there, but if chalking up a 60mm TB on the modlist pitches your tent, then go for it.

Re: Mustang Throttle bodies

I agree with Thor, you won't gain any extra performance out of it. Not worth the money and hassle to get it to fit.

Re: Mustang Throttle bodies

Stepping up to a bored 55/57mm TB is good enough to begin with. That flows plenty, even with a turbo. Now if you slap a HUGE turbo on there, then the TB may need to get replaced (since after 57 you can't open it up anymore). Point being, don't need that big.

Re: Mustang Throttle bodies

Im going to put the 60mm jeep TB on my 420a fairly soon.

If your planning on going turbo then you could go ahead and do the jeep tb mod. If not then having your stock one bored should be fine.

I wonder if we'll be the only ones on AF rollin jeepin TB's on the 420A

Since my company now has all sorts of neat machinery..I think I will attempt to make an adapter plate. Instead of being forced to drill the throttle body mount holes wider. Today I made a snow plow scoop for the forklift lol...
