I am having trouble getting the switch out---any help would be appreciated. I have removed all wire harnesses and have taken off the shroud. Any suggestions

Do yourself a favor and pick out a Passat Manual from Haynes.

Re: ignition switch removal?????1992
to actually take the switch out you WILL need to pull the steering wheel (24mm socket and at least a 3 inch extention), pull the column switches ( a couple small standard screws) and pull hte entire ignition lock housing. there is a 6 or 7 mm allen head bolt on the left side of the column holding it in olus you will need hte key in the on position to disengage teh colum lock. then it just pulls off. there is a screw for the ignition switch on the inner part of the lock housing that needs to be pulled to get the switch out.
installation is the reverse of removal. can ya tell i have done this before??? MOST VWs up to at least 96 have the same basic design on how the ignition switches are held in. and if you get a repair manual go either factory OR the bentley manual. the haynes\chiltons books dont show much of anything.
