Easy DIY power gains...
hey guys i know i said this was about a couple of easy power gains and it is but first a couple of questions.
1st black out head lights? wouldnt painting the reflector black really cut back on how well the headlights illuminated and kinda defeat the purpose? 2nd does anyone know the weight capacity and any dangers involved in exceeding it. 3rd has anyone had extremely bad smelling exaust. this is a 1996 toyota avalon xls w/ 95000 miles on it but its still in really great shape. okay now for power gains... pls note that i did these mods on a much older car and so far have seen no problem w/ what i have done. i have no problem messing w/ my car but what you do to yours is your responsibility. okay first mod im sure everyone has opened up the hood of your car and looked at whats there. this mod involves the air intake so if you dont know what im talking about ill send you pics. the stock intake is this little tiny tube that looks like it should be on something the size of a mini cooper. so heres what i did 1st unplug the MAF sensor from the intake and unclip the upper housing from the lower housing. 2nd remove the filter and push the upper housing out of the way 3rd if you look at the bottom of the lower half of the air box there are three bolts, remove these and the lower half of your air box now the tricky part. 4th depending on year of your avy find the bolts connecting the air intake tube leading to the front of the car and remove these then remove this tube. i had to remove the battery and the fuse boxes to get mine out. 4th (optional) if you dont feel like spending the time wrestling the tube out of your car then skip directly from removing the lower half of the air box to step 5 5th now that you have removed the lower half of the air box. find your air filter and reattach it to the upper half of the air box leaving the filter exposed. this requires some creativity b/c there was no original way to keep the filter on. i used big binder clips (1 on each end) and so far after about 1000 miles they are still holding fine and the power gains are tremendous. 6th reattach MAF sensor and all tubes that were there and drive the car notes: you will notice significant power gains not to mention a slightly deeper sound and a much louder intake sound while accelerating. this is the second mod for those of you who use the ect power in your cars this might be something you want to look at. but if you dont use that ect button all the time it will make the car feel harsh. okay this involves shortening the gear shifts 1st when you look at the throttle body you will see two wires one leads to the gas pedal and one to the tranny the tranny wireis on the outside 2nd you will see two nuts on the end holding the wire the goal here is to move those nuts to get that tranny wire as tight as possible with out restricting the throttle this mod will make the transmission shift faster and harder giving the car a sportier feel. originally these cars were designed for comfort so the way they were set up was so the transmission would "hessitate" or "hold" between gears so that the acceleration would be smooth and quiet this puts unbeliveable strain on the transmission and actually heats it up way more than neccisary so this mod will lengthen the life of your tranny 3rd mod Look for the ACIS mods in thie forum 4th mod REMOVE THE LINING UNDER THE HOOD IT JUST MAKES IT HOT so if yall have anyquestions just let me know |
