Ignition Key - Won't Come out - More info- Help needed.

Okay, I am still struggling with the ignition key. I have a 91 Automatic. When it is very cold, the key will not go to the final position so that I can remove it. If I let it sit for awhile, 1/2 hour or so, then it will go to the final position. The other thing that I noticed is that when I shift it to park, the indicator on the shifter shows park, but the indicator on the dash board does not show it in park. Actually no lights are on. When the indicator light does show it in park, then I can turn the key to the final position and remove it. So it appears that it is some type of electrical problem.

HELP PLEASE

Re: Ignition Key - Won't Come out - More info- Help needed.

the problem is your interlock control unit. my 91 had the same problem. the way i was getting my key out was to unplug the blue unit under the drivers seat. the key should then come out. the only problem with this is, is that the car will not shift, requiring you to use the shift release. to totally fix both problems i had to remove the locking mechanism attached to the shifter as well as removing the blue module under the seat. Also, i talked to a technician about my problem and he said that if you have spilt anything like cola or anything sticky in the area around the shifter, it will cause a loss of continuity in the electrical connections to devices. Check those first and if the problem still persists, then i would suggest just removing the shift lock solinoid and the interlock control unit.
