Electrical Problems Galore

Hey, I'm new to this site, and anything anyone can tell me would be great! I'm driving a 95 cavalier that just hit 80,000km's. For some reason now, it's having various electrical problems. This is what happens when I'm not driving it: first, the alarm goes off (sometimes in the middle of the night), showing that there has been some power failure; once I turn it off, it won't do its job from that point onwards. The dome light on the inside of my car won't work, and my stereo stops working as well. When I start the car, it has no problem starting, and the seatbelt light blinks at irregular intervals (eventhough I am wearing my seatbelt). Now what's strange is that these problems seem to 'reset' once I disconnect the negative cable from the battery, dust it off, and plug it back on. The stereo works, the alarm works, but the flashing seatbelt light still remains; they continue to work for what seems like almost exactly 3 days, and then the problems start over again (ie. alarm goes off, then stereo doesn't work, dome light doesn't work). I thought that maybe it was reseting the computer or something, but I honestly have no idea. Anything you guys can tell me would be great. Thanks a lot,
-cdevi

Re: Electrical Problems Galore

I had the same problem with my old cavalier i had, alarm would randomly go off. I got pissed off and ripped the box for the alarm out and that was it.

Unhappy Re: Electrical Problems Galore

Im having a simalar issue. This mornig I went for a coffee after the car starting perfectly fine to go there. When I grabed my coffee and went to start my car , nada. Lots of battery power but no starter sound. So a block away I had my car towed to my buddies shop. Diagnoses: Fusable link, broken/corroded wire in the harness. After fixin the wire starts like a charm. But to the related problem my DRL modual is not working and my km display sometimes cuts out, shows partial #'s or displays the whole thing. I have noticed under the hood some loose wires that don't seem to be where they should. Its seems like the split loom has corroded away and they are left for barren, prone to damage. To me it seems like you should check your grounds and certian elec. connections. Or mabey try running it on a ODB tester to see if any codes come up.

Hope some of this helps
