Question Idle Concern, Not Problem.

So anyway, after noticing my throttle cable was somewhat sagging (for lack of a better word,) I decided to tighten it a little. Everything was fine for about a week, ran like a champ. So then I get under my car and replace the Fuel Filter, and proceed to take it for a test drive. When up shifting, i would press teh clutch down, but my revs would stay at whatever range i was in. For example: I'm doing 3700rpm, i press the clutch, and my revs stay up there until the other gear is engaged. And it does this through out the all the gears. Another thing, when idling at a stop i would be at 1200rpm usually. Now it'll sit at 2000rpm! WTF???

I read the My car Stutters, hesitates, has a bad Idle, wont boost, or is just acting funny! Could it possibly be becauseof the FF? I highly doubt it. Any suggestions?

When I shift my rpms usually stay in that same range and fall very slowly. 1200 is WAY too high of idle for warm.

The throttle cable does expand and contract with heat. So what you do is run the car, make sure it's completely warm, then do the throttle adjustment. The cable will be loose so it'll work the best and get you the best accuracy and not have problems with that then. That is if that's the problem.

Well on my car, as soon as i pressed the clutch my rpms would drop. as far as idling, I'm usually running at 1100-1200. So should i dick around with the BISS?

And how would you do that since you don't have one? 420a are BISS-less.

It's all in the throttle cable adjustment. And since you've been having problems since you did that and the fuel filter, I'd say start with the cable. FF will not cause issues like that unless you were spraying fuel all over the place or not getting enough fuel. But then you would know that was the problem.

Mine use to be the same, hit the clutch and fall right to idle. Now it kinda sits up there and thinks about coming down. Drops to ~1200 and then to 850 when I come to a stop. You're idle is way too high for all the time. I would say rip the throttle body off and clean it up and make sure everything is clear. Then check the TPS and the IAC and make sure those are functioning properly.

LOL, yeah the TB is definately coming off. The only thing I can think off right now might be unk keeping it open if it happens to not be the cable. We'll see in about 2 hours when I get home.

Re: Idle Concern, Not Problem.

Also check to make sure nothing is getting the way of the flapper on the TB. I had a ground wire once get stuck in there. Also my EGR vacuum line likes to wonder very close around it too.

Re: Idle Concern, Not Problem.

Try readjusting your throttle cable. You had no problems before the adjustment right?

No problems before that. But that now that I thik about it, the vac hose that goes from PCV to my VC is missing a hose clamp. How about that? I broke it on accident the ohter. I have yet to fix that, and that happened around the time I changed my FF.

***EDIT***
1 hour later, I come home park my car and leave it on with 2k idle!! Holy shit, I think to myself. So then after shutting my car off I move the tensioning bracket for the throttle cable back 8mm to where is used to be. Runs fine now and idles at about 850rpm.

Question, will it affect me if i don't have the hose clamp on?

Re: Idle Concern, Not Problem.

Probably not, but you might want to find one. A vacuum leak will cause a funny idle too.
