Ford OD Transmission Maintenance & Auxiliary Cooler Installation
Do yourself a favor and install that auxiliary transmission cooler now, and flush old fluid out the return line when changing. Or you may have to change the transmission for early failure.
Here is a link and alot of good information on transmission maintenance, along with solutions to many of the often too many transmission failure posts.Transmission Do's & Don'ts I thought people would like to view why it is so important to install an auxiliary transmission cooler, and also the reasons why ford owners that perform frequent maintenance and change their transmission oil every 12,000 to 30,000 miles range faithfully, and install auxiliary coolers end up the least amount of major transmission problems. Transmission radiator cooler line cleanings are critical to remove debris that will harm your transmission. An ounce of prevention will in these cases save lots of money. Most people think their normal transmission fluid temperature is fine from the factory. How wrong they are. See what a 20 degree temperature drop can do to extend life. Which choice do you want to do? Save on not changing synthetic fluid cost per quart, and the minor transmission cooler, or the $3,000. transmission replacement? I change my synthetic trans.fluid often and still am amazed at just how smooth the transmission shifts after new fluid is put in. Cruise thru the many pages as I did and you will get a real education on the unknowns inside a transmission. The pages are directed at similar Ford Transmissions, but certainly apply to Windstar, and Freestars. http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny...on/page5.shtml Use of Mercon V synthetic fluid is discussed in depth and recommended.Individual failure causes and symptoms of many issues that happen to transmissions along with the solutions. |
