coolant leak

1996 3.2 auto rodeo 209k miles
i did some searching and can only come up with my water pump. every post I found about it had leaking down the front of the pan. mine is leaking from the driver side of the pan towards the front. it looks like it is coming from behind the ac compressor. there is no pooling on top of the motor. I have had the truck for a little over two years and have no idea when the water pump was changed last. Do you think that the pump is my problem? there is no oil in my coolant, so i don't think it is a head gasket. the truck runs strong and does not overheat.

Re: coolant leak

I think that the water pump is on that side.

Re: coolant leak

here;s an illustration from the isuzu onlineparts site www.myisuzuparts.com
showing the water pump and also the area that it bolts onto the engine block.

it is a bit of an odd shape as you can see, and while it's centered on the block, it spans both sides and the leak could travel anywhichway.

suggest you do some cleaning up there so you can more accurately tell from whence it comes....

Re: coolant leak

it does deffinately need some cleaning underneath. thats for sure. I was watching the drips come from directly behind the ac compressor bracket. I figured it was the water pump, but wanted some conformation before I tore into it. thanks for the input.

Re: coolant leak

The engine coolant cools the oil there behind the oil filter.

You can see where they attach in the photo.

Be sure the hoses are not leaking in that area....

Re: coolant leak

well its done. The water pump was leaking. but not anymore. found an unusual oil leak though while I was cleaning. going to post it with pic under "new oil leak" for future searching purposes.
