Ponchonutty...or others..save me with Passlock and Electrical!

Hey, Poncho -

I hope you don't mind me sending you a PM. I've been reading your posts the last several years on the PK2 problem and even compiled a binder for both my dealer and Chevy that contains a good deal of your posts. Am hoping you might be able to direct me here:

After years of this PK2 problem (security light coming on while driving, stranded in bad areas, strange things happening like lights going out in the rain, etc.), I thought incorrectly that my replacement last summer of the alternator (stupid me) might have solved the problem.

Since the alternator replacement last summer, I only had one brief encounter with the Security Light. Two days ago, the car battery was found to be completely dead. I was able to jump it and drove straight to the dealer. One interesting note - the seats were all moved to a strange position upon finding the dead battery.

The dealer also found, upon walking to the car in the morning, that the seats had moved on their own. Could not find problem with the battery.

I drove three blocks to another dealership (to look at Toyotas!), decided to turn the ignition off, and of course, the car would not start until three tries. The start can be classified as a "weak, sagging start" and came to this gradually after the alternator replacement. However, it has found this weak start status over the years...always. Battery was replaced a little over a year ago (at only 51000 miles).

Now, the dealer has it again and is unsure how to proceed with the battery issue. They want to say it is a "weak cell" in the battery.

What can I tell them? I am hoping not have to resurrect my 3 inch binder and start the whole Chevy case file threatening, etc.

Thanks for anything....and if you want me to post on the board, I can do this to help others learn. Wanted to go to you first, though.

Re: Ponchonutty...or others..save me with Passlock and Electrical!

had passlock issues on a 98 achieva we have

replaced ign lock twice

had the instr cluster repaired twice

went ot the dealer three times

all to no avail

the security light would return and disable the fuel injectors again, sooner or later

we got sick of this un repairable passlock issue and i snipped the black yellow/wire from the ignition lock assembly and it has been fine for a year now

passlock is one of the most problematic systems ever

it rates way high on the scale of frustration of passlock equipped vehicle owners

nothing but troubles with it

security light flashing and injectors not firing is the dead giveaway that passlock is FUBAR in a vehicle

if so then good luck fixing it

chances are that you wont, and GM cant either

cut the wire

and it will be fine
