What are some real all-out lemons?

Everyone is always being overly optimistic about how good cars are. Like on a forum like this, whenever someone asks for an opinion, people will invariably say, "it's a good car" when it really isn't. I now bring you my comprehensive list of cars that invariably break constantly:

-Dodge Neon (94-99)
-Ford minivan (95-98), Contour/Tracer, most Tauri, Thunderbird,
-Dodge Avenger
-Dodge Daytona

These cars don't suck, they just break a lot. Feel free to add

Re: What are some real all-out lemons?

I had a 97 taurus for a while and it never had any problems at all. Very boring car, but it was certainly a good car. Here is a well known lemon, the fiero. Pretty cool car, but its got problems.

Re: What are some real all-out lemons?

Hey, the Fiero isn't too bad.

Check out the M-series Mercedes, 1998 onwards. (ie, ML 320, ML 350, etc)

I often visit a well known used car review site, where owners can write their own reviews and the M series had by far the WORST reviews of any car on that site.

Every owner had a bad review, all were complaining bitterly of feeling 'ripped off' after spending all that $$$ just to have their trucks break again and again, often the same problems over and over again.

I have to disagree on that. Maybe I've got a good one, but my '95 Windstar has only had these problems in the last 3 of 12 years total. It went 9 years without any problems.

-Siezed power steering pump.
-Busted radiator hose.
-Worn out headlight switch.
-Dead dashboard lights.

Ok, those are some problems, but the engine and drivetrain still run great, plus it handles great in the snow. The engine always starts!

My SVT Contour was flawless for the three years I owned it. My buddy's 4 cyl base Contour was similar.

And you know this how? Having owned both, and knowing quite a few people that own both I would have to strongly disagree.

Re: What are some real all-out lemons?

You can pick up lemons just about anywere these days. But there is a difference between an new lemon and a used lemon. Used lemons are everywere because people are too dumb to maintain their cars, sell them, and when you pick it up it will break down within a few weeks. Warranties are designed to fight aginst lemons on new vehicles. Although IMO if you are shopping for a new VW you have a 50 50 chance of getting a good one!

Re: What are some real all-out lemons?

Dodge Caravans
My parents bought one in the early 90's (it was a year old at the time) and have had nothing but problems with it. The A/C stopped working within the first 3 months, and even after several replacements and "fixes" over the year, it still doesn't work to this day. The transmissions are garbage as well. The first week we got it, we went to a mountain here in NY (White Face Mountain), and it wouldn't even make it to the top (nice burning smell from about half way up). It's been replaced 2-3 times since then. Also the cheap plastic hood pop lever (don't know the technical term) broke off from the wire, so now you have to pull it with plyers while someone else pounds on the edge of the hood.

Re: What are some real all-out lemons?

peugeots of course, i've had a secondhand 406 and guess what, it sucks, if u stuck in a trafic jam, the engine overheated, then there's the electrical stuff which always packed up, especially the power window. i've heard a lot of horror stories from another peugeot owners too. i only keep this car for 4 months anyway.
ps: peugeot is the worst company in 2007 bbc top gear reliability survey
