EGR valve problem - need help

I have Engine light with code for EGR on my 2000 Venture.
Has anybody had that problem ?
I looked at buying an EGR valve online but the pictures don't look like mine. Also the Haynes book is showing the valve with 2 bolts on each side of the valve, mine doesn't have the bolts. EGR seems to be directly attached to the pipe where it is sitting. How do I remove it?

Re: EGR valve problem - need help

it has two nuts that come off the two bolt studs. these can be cleaned ,spray some carb cleaner min the valve and push the piston back and spray it and the seat . then after you got it pretty clean spray some cleaner on the seat and see if the seal between the piston and seat will hold the cleaner. if it holds the cleaner without letting it leak through then the seat is clean. make sure the piston moves freely back and forth. if there is a problem with the piston or seat then replace the egr valve.

Re: EGR valve problem - need help

Thanks .... I found out that the EGR valve has to be removed with that piece of pipe and the bolts are horizontal. I also need to disconnect the hose coming from the exhaust. All of this pretty difficult to access ... bad design! The older design with vertical bolts was much better.
I don't know if it will be that easy to clean. I'll give it a try next time the engine light comes back.

Re: EGR valve problem - need help

you don't need the whole valve off to clean the piston and seat. as these are in the top part. and this should come off by removing the two nuts or bolts ,should be nuts but could be bolts. if the gasket comes off without tearing then reuse it if it tears put a new one in. you want to make sure the piston is moving and not bent and that the seat is clean.
