97 Runs rough..

I have a 97 Chev Lumina v6 3.1 (I think) 200,000 Kms.

The car runs great for short 1hr trips, after about an hour of driving (Highway) the engine will chug and eventually stall. Let it sit for 5 mins and get it up to speed and all is good. Let it idle and it dies, and have to wait 5 mins again.. Like I said it runs great for the first hour, fuel efficiency is also very good..

Any ideas?

Paul

During that 5 minutes you need to test for spark and fuel pressure for an accurate diagnosis. BTW, it's a 3.1.

when it stalls and wont start, take a plug wire off and ground it to see if you get any spark. if you get spark, spray some starting fluid in the throtle body, if it runs its your fuel pump..
