e30 wont start

my 84 318 will not start. i was driving down the road and heard a few loud backfires, and then it just stopped going. i just replaced the fuel pump a few minutes ago and still nothing. i still think it sounds like a fuel delivery problem because right before the backfiring it hit fuel cut. any ideas??? thanks.

steve.

Along shot, but if you have water (condensation) in the fuel it will pop, bang, cut out, and may quit running. I would buy a couple of bottles of dry gas, water out, heet, etc (isopropyl alcohol) dump them in the tank, give her some settling time and try restarting.
