Question 97 Eclipse RS... HELP

Hey... to all reading this thread, I AM NEW TO ECLIPSES and the car world pretty much.... i am about to be 17 and i am just gaining interest in cars... so use small words. i would very much like to have some questions answered without being called an ass or anything else referring to levels of intelligence. thank you in advance.

I am currently looking at a 97 RS eclipse. it is in excellent condition 80k miles loaded with extras and totally stock. it drives and handles nicely from what i could tell from the short drive i took in it. The dealership is asking 6000 for it. i dont want to jump in head first bcuz i will be the one resposible for maintanence, repairs and the monthly payment.

Specs: 5 speed sunroof power everything, everything inplace like it was manufactured save the CD player, the only weak spot i could point out was the sound system... i know i dont have to get technical with ya'll.

Q1: Is this a good deal?? Like i said from my inspection... nothing is wrong with the car. And its even my favorite color, Gray.

Q2: I am not familiar with Mitsubishi automotives,(i live in Texas, my family drives fords... lol) are there any know mechanical problems that i you would know of in this model?

Q3: What should i look out for as a sign of coming problems?

Q4: With the money left over from the car payment, what should i worry about modding first? Ive already got some rims that i am adding to the loan. Enkei5+'s

Any other suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated....

Zach

jack for options? be a little more specific, plz. its not like i have alot of money laying around to spend. Surely the RS has options, right? I'm not trying to get down to 10's. itd be nice to have a GST, but im 17, only makin 5.50 an hour.... and i dont wanna drive anymore than 200 miles to get one. if you know of one hook me up then... Dallas FT area :apoke:

Zach

Gimme examples other than "jack"..... not trying to be ungrateful.

These cars along with the neons had major head gasket problems. It's a chrysler motor...just to let ya know. 6,000 is a bit steep in my opinion....I am selling a turbo model talon for 5000 and have a catback apexi exhaust, upper ic pipe, boost controller, gauges, eclipse high spoiler, 1st gen BOV, air intake, and a slew of other things.....6,grand is a bit steep for a NT...and a RS model at that and with 80,000 miles. If you do consider it...make sure all the preventative maintanence has been done. I.E. timing belt, water pump, drive belts, belt tesioner. and so on. If that hasn't been done, then you are gonna dig yourself into a hole, cause to go have that stuff done is not cheap. I know your new to this...but be smart...get someone that does know what they are talking about to go with you and check the car out. hope this helps.

I predict a "What do I have to do to make this thing turbo" thread by this guy in the future. Hehe J/k. Good choice on the Eclipse. You're next car will definitely be much faster once you start makin cash. Enjoy the easy non-turbo car maintenence. It's a bitch once you start modding those. :sun:
