Starting a Diet

High, I am going to start a diet and I was wondering if anyone out there has ever started a diet intending to loose 50 to 100 pounds? I am not quite sure on what diet to choose, Atkins sounds easy enough to stick to but not sure what else is available and their succes rate. Anyone have any tips on what diet to follow or how to start and stick to one?

I have tried the Atkins diet 2 years ago and lost 20 pounds and then I suddenly quit and gained it all back within 6 months. It pisses me off that it is so easy to gain weight and that it takes an unbalivable amount of dedication and will power to loose it.

Anyone know of any pills that will help in the process? I have seen comercials for TrimSpa (Ana Nicole) but I am not sure if it is healthy to take those kind of pills.

Thanx

Re: Starting a Diet

Ignore all that commercial crap and start your own diet. If you HAVE to have a guide, make sure it is a COMPLETELY balanced with low GI foods and not having an excess of one thing.

I recommend eating like a bowl of low fat cereal for breakfast with natural yoghurt and a banana. Have lots of salad, fish and wholemeal breads for lunch and a smaller dinner. Snack on fruit.

The real key to losing weight on a diet is excercise every day. Look at riding an excercise bike, going for a jog (Don't walk - it's useless) or swimming for AT LEAST 30 mins a day. Include a few weights session in there and you can have some more lean protein (skinless chicken etc).

What is your weight now, what is your goal weight and what is your realistic timeframe.

Re: Starting a Diet

You need a diet low in carbs overall, but any carbs you do consume should be low GI. You want to be eating a lot of lean proteins (skinless grilled chicken, grilled fish etc) and fruit and vegetables. Avoid fried and fast food products at all cost, along with anything with a high sugar content ("soda", "candy") and beer (vodka is much kinder to the waist line). Eat calory controlled portions (SMALL) and avoid excessive snacking.

Don't go crazy on the low carbs though... Carbs are vital to maintain proper digestion. You can develop gastrointestinal problems with a low or no carb diet.

The key is to exercise....

Good Luck with meeting your goal.

I am 260 and want to get to 190 at least. I find it hard to get the motivation to exercise every day. So are you saying that those pills like trimspa are usless or unecacary? How long do you think it will take to lose 70 lb, concidering I diet and exercise 3 times a week?

Has anyone on here lost 60 or more pounds before? I would like to know what you did to motivate and get the lb off.
