:sun: Well, I just got my new Z after a couple of months of searching. About 2 ½ months ago, I became aware that Nissan was producing the Z line again. It was 30 years ago that I purchased my first new car, a bright red Datsun 240 Z, sticker price $2,9XX.XX. After test driving a 350Z, two months ago, I felt it was time to renew a little of my youth again, so I started looking around. The local Nissan dealer told me that it would be four to six weeks before they would get there first delivery and that they were planning on selling them for $2,500 over sticker. The second dealer I visited told me that they are only going to mark theirs up by $1,000. Well, I searched the Net for all Nissan dealers within a 100-mile radius. I ran across a dealer, 20 miles away, that did not have any on the lot, but he said when they do, he would sell one to me for sticker. After looking at models, options and colors, I decided that I wanted a Touring model in Le Mans Sunset with burnt orange interior. I had to have it in that color. I’m a design by trade (architect), and feel that the Le Mans Sunset is the color that fits this machine. I had another dealer that told me that he would sell me one a sticker, but when it came in he tried to stick me with a $2,500 dealer mark-up . . . I hit the ceiling and the door at the same time . . . out of there. Finally, I approach the dealer 20 miles away and he would order me one with everything I wanted, but it would be the first of the year before it would be delivered - Plan “B”. Plan “A” was that I would keep watch over the Net for one to show up. Three days later one with everything I wanted showed up 90 miles away. That morning I called the dealer. He told me that they had just unloaded it off the truck and it was being prepd. I asked him was he selling it at sticker price. He said yes. I said “Are you sure?”, he said “Yes” again. I told him that I would be there in two hours to pick it up. I bought the Le Mans Sunset, with burnt orange interior, six speed, GPS and all the options (except aero package which I did not want). Great . . . I feel thirty years younger. I hope it will last.

I choose the same colors as well. Lemans with Burnt Orange. I have not seen that color in person, but ordered it anyway. Is it really as pretty as the pictures? I hope so because mine will be here in a month or two.

Tomlong,
I love the pictures too, but I also had reservation about the Le Mans Sunset and the burnt orange interior. I saw this combination first at a dealer that had mislead me to believe that he would sell me this car at sticker price. I took off three hours from work, drive 40 miles, took one look at the 350Z and reached for my check book. Unfortunately, he tried to tack on a $2,500 dealer market price adjustment so the deal went bad. But, I had seen the Le Mans Sunset and the Burnts Orange and loved it. A week later I had a dealer with a silver one with gray interior to agree to selling me it for sticker price. I almost brought it but told him I was stuck on the Le Mans Sunset and burnt orange. The told me that the first of December he would be placing orders and he would order me one with the color, interior and options of my choosing. I told him that I would take him up on it if I could not find one before his December order. Three days later, I saw one listed on the Internet and the next day bought it, AT STICKER. I love the color and the GPS is my toy within my toy. I haven't felt like this about a car since I bought my 240Z thirty years ago. It hasn't made me thirty years younger, but I sure feel about 20 years younger when I drive it. Lots of luck, I think you will be pleased with this color combination. :flash: |

Man, I have never, and will never buy any car at MSRP. You are getting raped when you do that. You might was well walk in and pull your pants down. You think you are getting a good deal, but the dealer is laughing because he sold the car at a huge markup. But cool man, I'm glad you like it.

If you can get a Z right now at less than MSRP, then you are the man.
Right now, you are doing darn well if you can get it at MSRP. Supply and demand! |

I know, it's such BS to put a price on it that's over the MSRP.
I would rather wait a few months to a year and get one that the price can be negotiated on. Damn dealers !!

antidote11, Have YOU tried to buy a 350Z? I could buy more Honda Preludes for less than MRSP all day long than anyone would ever want. Yes, in six months to a year you might be buying 350Zs for less than MSRP and if you look mighty hard and spend a lot of time, you might find one for less, especially if you have a friend or relative who owns a Nissan dealership.

I'm more than happy to pay MSRP because I want the car. I have read every piece of literature I could find 100 times, I have test driven one, and I like to buy toys. I stop by my dealer every week to make sure they are still planning to deliver around FEB 1st. What can I say!!

I didn't try to buy one per say, but they won't even let you test drive one until they run your credit and you put down a grand to hold one. I would never ever ever put down money on a car I have never driven. I don't see how anyone could not drive a car but still want to buy it. I don't care if it's a RUF turbo for 30K, I would never buy a car until I test drove it and liked it.
And the dealerships were all "You have to order one, they won't be here until March." Now they email me every freggin' day telling me they have 3 or 4 to get rid of and would I come buy one. ![]() And what does a Prelude have to do with this conversation. They are discontinued - so yeh, you could get it under MSRP, if you can find a new one. But yeh, I got mine for invoice plus some change

For a long time I was unable to find a place willing to let me drive one unless I was certain, then I went to Connell Nissan in Costa Mesa, CA where the manager let me drive his car even though I wasn't 100% sure. It made the diffrence, and that's why I ordered one from there.

You know what, I would probably be sold too if I got to drive it. I have no doubt that it's an ass kicker !! But no one around here (Dallas) will let you test drive one without a deposit, but I'm sure that will change soon when the rush to get a Z is over. Maybe in a few months.
So is the Z all it's cracked up to be ? |

Test Drives
I live in Dallas and just bought my Z about two weeks ago from Trophy Nissan. They let you test drive a Z before you buy it, and without a deposit! Yes, they were a little gunshy about it, but they did let me drive it, nevertheless. You just have to use a little bit of charisma to convince the dealer that you aren't some jerk off with no intention of purchasing the vehicle. The test drive was all I needed, though, since I bought the very car I drove. By the way Trophy is getting something like 27 new Zs this month, so you might check it out if you've been wanting or waiting to drive one.

I test drove one the other day. They let me and my buddy take it out. I was gone about 45 minutes. I ordered one a month ago and they did not even want a deposit. I am buying it from a Nissan Dealer which is pretty large, but they do not have a high demand for this type of car because most people where I live buy on of the 200 F150's they have. Needless to say I live in a Rural area, but born and raised in cities so I have to stand out a little.

Hmmm......I may have to go by Trophy this weekend then. I have been dealing with Bankston in Lewisville and the other one in Dallas off of Preston.
So what's up with the Z's, where they as fast as you thought it would be or no ? How is the weight on that thing when cornering ?? I ask because the Z would be used for daily driving but also weekend track events and autocrosses. |
