My weekend. (pics, a little slow on 56k)

I had a brief holiday last weekend, just jumped in my car and headed off to Hamilton to see a friend, then decied to go for a little drive.
I ened up going a little further than expected, but ended up haveing a bloody good time.

Arriaved in Hamilton on the Friday afternoon (no pics, Hamilton is a hole), but went out to Raglan for the evening, heres a sunset looking out over the main surfbeach.

And my friend:

A lovely road sign on the way to Raglan.

Then on the Saturday I left for New Plymouth at about 4pm. I stayed in a backbackers in the middle of town. Great spot, stayed up till I dont know when drinking Bourbon with the manager, 2 Germans, 2 Japanese, and some other Kiwis who had come up for a Holiday.

(note all the empty bottles on the table)
Alcahol is the worlds best diplomat. :ylsuper

We took a break when it got dark and went up to Pukarua park where theres an anual light show.
We were all pretty drunk by this stage, so sadly most of the pic's didnt come out.
But I got some odd ones:

Then it was up early on the sunday as the Germans wanted a ride down the coast to Whangari, the locals at the backbackers said it was only an hours drive. I don't know how fast they drive though as traveling at 110 all the way it took closer 2 1/2 hours.
But it was a great drive down the coast, on a very enjoyable road.

German sleeping in the back:

The other one trying to look casual, (I took this pic traveling at about 110)

and so she took on of me when I wasnt expecting it

I had planed on heading back home after dropping the girls off, but then I at the map and realised how close I was Palmy North. Of course we all know who lives in Palmy North, so I made a quick call then off for another drive 45mins in totaly the wrong direction to Auckland.

Ariaved in Plamy had to follow this for half a lap of the square, It was being driven some bloody hoon who kept running yellow lights.

The HOON. Ugly bastard isnt he

Actualy a big thank you to Warren for the hospitality, was good to catch up with ya mate, next time Ill bring some beer and stay a little longer than an Afternoon.
And I have seen his models, they are even more impressive in person. (the paint is totaly flowless, and despite my searching the whole house I could not find any hidden miniture spray robots)

Then about 5:30pm it was onto state Highway 1 for the long drive back to Auckland.
For those from more Civilised countries this is our Main state highway:

and heres some silly mountian that sticks up out of no where

I stoped for dinner in Taupo, then headed off just as the sun was setting.

Just past Matamata the moon made a spectacular apperance above a hill. It had a red tinge from the bush fires in Aussie, but was very very bright.
So I took some time exposures with the Digi cam:

Heres one with a little work from Photoshop.
I need to learn how to work the Camera properly, the moon is a bit overexposed.

I got back home about midnight, covered over 1,500km, the car never missed a beat and even seemed to enjoy it. For its size it makes an awsome touring car, a little small for carrying gear, but plenty of power for over taking, and great handling for dealing with NZ's roads.

Nice trip and nice pics, Mr Mops. Looks like you had a blast. Will have to do this on all my road trips to the snow next winter.

Amazing how similar the scenery looks to Australia - and about the bushfires, the situation is bad Canberra is burning...

I can assure you Im quite European in my ancestry.
My face and arms are pretty well tanned in the above pics, but I wouldn't mind a bit of Mexican indian in me to even out the rest of the tan.

Yogs, your quite welcome.
Although things are starting to look a little dry at the moment, Ill wait till it rains again then take a pic of some nice GREEN fields for ya.

So let me get this straight:

You went for a drive, ended up at a pub, got wasted with the manager, some Japanese dudes and some German chicks, took the German chicks with you, drove them somewhere after sleeping in the same car with them, then drove to Auckland and followed the hoon (no offence, Warren :finger: ) and drove back to Warren's house, stayed there for an afternoon then went home?

Just one question...Can I come next time!?!?!?! :finger:
