BMW Newbie here--want advice

Hello, looking for my first BMW, I have looked at a couple of 735iL, both with the M30 six. Just checking on reliability and parts availability, plus are they decent to work on by one's self? I have some automotive knowledge and a average set of mechanics tools...and anything to look out for that these early 90's models are prone too?
