D16z6 vs D16y8

Hey, guys, whats the difference between d16z6 and d16y6??? I want to do a Sohc Vtec swap into my DX, first off, what are ALL the parts in doing an Dual point to Multi point swap? and also, how the freak do i do it? Any body got a GOOD write up on it? and also, i want to put in a SOHC Vtec, what parts do i need for that? do i keep anything from my car? and also, does anyone have a GOOD write up on how to wire in the Vtec? and what controller should i use? and what process do i gotta do in doing the actual SWAP!? I have seen'd Ami's stuff about it, but i need something more detailed because me and my mechanically inclined friend are gonna give a WHACK at it and i think maybe if we read about it first, it wont be as much of trial and error.......... So, any help would be great guys, thanks!!!

Wow that is an arse load of questions, so you want to know about changing from dpfi to mpfi, then how to do an engine swap, then how to do a d16z6 or y8 swap, then how to get vtec activated? Check out honda-perf.org, ami's write up, and find a good write up on engine swaps, as for z6/y8 I believe that z6 is pretty much plug and play, while y8 may need a little more work, but im not exactly sure on this Im investigating it myself. The reason being our cars are non OBD, but the newer engines are ODB-I and OBD-II. Also the y8 has a higher compression which equals a little more HP plus the engine would be newer as well.

that was a lot of questions!

for the MPFI conversion>>>there is a how-to in this month's Sport Compacy (june 2002).

the 2 engines are basically the same. not really a big difference. i know there is a difference in how the distributor mounts depending on which engine and what year car it is from. and i believe the wiring harness (or the way you wire it if you try that way :licker: ) is made a little different. possibly to compensate for the different distributor...not postive on that one. it's early *need coffee*

here are swap info links:

http://www.geocities.com/bing_bong916/vtec.html

http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/sohcvtec.html

http://www.geocities.com/kurtsi_on/page7.html

http://www.geocities.com/crx288/d16z6swap.html

http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/...115/4gtech.html

http://www.angelfire.com/ca/DrOhm/hybrid.html

http://integra.vtec.net/engine/vcontrol.html

that's it! there has been a lot of talk on this swap at the board. as soon as i get some time i'll just make a page for freq> asked Q&A and links...then maybe make it sticky or something.

D16Z6

What can I expect to pay for this swap (assuming I already have MPFI)...?

it all depends on what sort of deals you find, but expect at least 1000 by the end.

Which one would be better to aim for? The z6 or y8?

well it depends. in all honesty, i recommend the z6. the swap has been done many times. no real shady areas. you know how honda likes to tweak the impeadence (sp?) of the fuel injectors? well it changed again in the y8. jer never did figure out how to wire up the mpfi if going from d15 to d16y8. i'm sure if he sat there and thought it out....he'd get it. i had a Si so no need to bother. i say screw all that drama. get a z6 and follow the instructions found all over the net. drop it in and done

check the engine section at the civic site for the links we used during my swap...they should be a big help

be okay for what? lol

all i have to say is......if it's a fresh rebuild....let it BREAK IN for at least 500 miles. go for a short road trip or soemthing before you try and see what it's got.

"Okay" as far as power goes. I just rebuilt it went .020" over and had it port and polished more polished that ported cause the ports where allready pretty close. All new bearings, rods, drop forged pistons, head gasket, all gaskets, and knife edged the crank. So will see. Dont know if Ill get it in before the meet at your place but I so hope so. I want to break it in before the trip. Oh ya Im still planing on going up there.
