Register Windows XP Pro

Hi All,

I have a copy of Wins XP pro on my machine and I never had to register or activate it. I'm reading forums around the net and there is some big issue surrounding this. Anyone here having problems?

This came up in conversation today and I was told that via the windows update page microsoft will force alot of WinXP Pro users to register and activate. Is this true?

Regards,
Spotovi

My copy is on the up and up. Maybe it's the home version. I don't know.

But dont worrie about it they cant force you to.

It's posts like this that spread rumors like you are.

Registering, and having a valid key are two different things.

If you have an invalid key, you will not be able to run your service pack updates.

I never registered with Microsoft, but I still get updates, and I did have to enter a CD Key, or something along those lines.

Hi All,

FYI

kbslacker is right they won't let you download the Service Pack I.

My copy isn't on the up and up after all. I found that out last night. I went to the windows update page. I downloaded everything need and then I went to the service pack I download. During the service pack install it stopped and told me my product key is invalid and that I should speak with the person that sold me the machine. I can if I wanted report it to Microsoft. I'm not going to do that.

Regards,
Vince.

Ditto. Ive been running XP Pro for quite a while now, and I would definitly not go back to 98/ME. XP has been nothing but good news for windows users

I think my computer does not like it. It keeps deleting my printer and refusing to work with some functions.

WIN XP

I find Win95 good for my laptop as it has the save to disk facility which I don't know if XP has. It was a real pain to lose work when the battery went flat with 98.
