trying to remove VCR

I have a 2001 Sport SE. The VCR has stopped working and I really just want to remove it from the center console to free up some storage space. The "VCP Release" lever is broken. ANy idea how i can get the player out??

Re: trying to remove VCR

I replaced my VCR with a new Balupunkt DVD player. It is very simple and if I recall, there are 4-6 sheet metal screws around the base of the console. Take them out and the console will lift up allowing you to unplug the wiring harness. Once you unplug the harness, you can take the console over to a workbench and I can't recall for sure, but there were some more screws on the bottom side that hold the black plastic liner inside the console. Once those screws are out you should be able to pull the liner out from the bottom and remove the VCR which is also screwed in.
I bought a 12 volt DVD player, and used a test light to find which wires were hot all the time, hot with the key on, and the ground. Scotch Clipped the connections and velcro the dvd player to the black plastic liner and it has been fine for 2 years now!!!
I do not miss the VCR tapes at all!!!!!
