I am actually in the same boat as you and have several of those CD units... The Problem is that it won't fit the van and to get it to fit the van you'll have to create as well as cut into the HVAC ducting... My 95 TS actually does have the steering wheel controls... But the only Units I have found so far are the Older GM units that were used through 96 in the Grand Am and the Transport.. Most of GM at that point had gone to the unit you posted..

Ok, I have to go in there anyway to fix some lights so I'll have a better idea what's there. Sounds like the newer radios are bigger but if I have the room, do you know if the newer radio (wires) would just plug in?

Did the older units (Older GM units that were used through 96 in the Grand Am and the Transport) that fit come with a cd option? Might you have a pix or part#?

Mine is the original cassette setup with 4 channel preselect. Failing the plug & play bolt in option to a newer factory radio (or older model that may have come with cd) I've seen some cheap radios/cd options in e-bay.

Edit - just found this ..but a mite pricey.

Yes there was a CD option but they are very hard to come by and usually expensive if you find one..

Not a great Picture, But this is the stock Head unit in my van... Its the 5 Band Eq Tape unit with steering wheel controls..

They made this one with the knobs( The knobs tend to fail in these units, Thank goodness for steering wheel controls and not having to touch the knobs )

This stereo is also made With a CD Player.. There is also a unit before that one used from 89-91 that will be a plug and play for you, it has no knobs as it uses all buttons...
