I believe I unbolted the lower control are and that allowed me enough room to move the axles out the way. Also make sure you take the speed sensor out before pulling the axles out or you will break it.(Not sure if this is true on the autos) Its really not hard and pretty straight forward other than that.

Manual to auto tranny swap is 100x more work than you think it is. It's more than just a simple tranny swap with some shifter cables, you need to get a different ecu, clutch lines, resirvoir, clutch, etc...it's not worth it bud, just sell your auto and buy a manual.

And like silvr said, unbolt the lower control arm and steering arm and then the hubs should swing enough to get the axles out.

well, i see that you have 2 threads for the same exact topic...but as far as the swap, a friend of mine didn't use a different ecu, it had to just be reset. it is easier to drop the tranny from the bottom since it isnt that tall and there is nothing below it, after you easily remove the bottom mount. if you plan on pulling the engine out, definately easier with a crane from the top. it is still somewhat easy to pull the motor out from the bottom, with the help of gravity, but you will still find it extremely difficult to install it this way.

ok, this morning i hooked up the boom on my bobcat and lifted it out the top. everything went pretty smooth, other then the fact that i forgot about the fuel line and wrecked one of the hoses. but not bad being this is the first itme i've ever pulled a motor... now for the auto to manual conversion and finding parts. wish me luck.... apparently i'll need it

Did you leave the transmission on the motor when you pulled it or just pull the motor first?

Is it easier to pull the trans separate from the motor and remove it first from the bottom and then remove the motor from the top?

Or is this easiest to remove the trans and motor as a unit from the top?

I dropped mine from the bottom along with all the steering components, axles etc still attatched. Took 5 hours. Easy enough to do if you have clearance underneath the car.
