A different type of a different car. Updated progress.

Well, I had my school formal recently and I got hooked up for a ride in a 1961 Ford Falcon, this is the cleanest car I have ever seen and this is what inspired me to build this, a 1961 Ford Ranchero.
The Falcon (pictured below) is in my car club, so I decided to make a nice Lowrider out of the Ranchero. So onto the details, I hope you like it because I know alot of you aren't interested in Lowriders.

The paint is mica blue over a gold base, interior will be white with blue carpet and mica blue dashboard and door trim. The tray consists of 6 batteries and 3 pumps, I am scratchbuilding a switchbox for it also scratchbuilding the Frame and back half of the chassis as the AMT molded on exhaust and diff just made me laugh too much. Engine is undecided, I want to put a 289 or a inline 6 in it, but have neither lying around. Wheels are chrome 14s with wide whitewalls. This will end up laying frame.

The Inspiration

The model

Sorry for the photos being so big, they will be smaller next time.

Nice work PD! Very nice! Paint is good, should look better upon some slight polishing. It's a great colour, very contemporary. May I suggest a 351 windsor for the engine? You know a lot of us modellers appreciate these kind of works. Try to show us your work more often.

Probably not, I'm not planning on making poseable suspension or anything for this but I am going to wire the hydros.

Bloodhound - The only dull places on the paint is the roof, I am thinking of painting the roof gloos white and adding some blue patterns, but we will see. As for the engine, I'll take whatever I can get but I only want a small block. I have a few 427 Chevys lying around aswell as 440 Magnums, but I might be able to put something together for it.

I'm unsure as to do the patterns on the roof or to paint the roof flat blue, the same as the tonneu cover, and wether to do the window trim and badges etc in gold or silver.
Suggestions are needed at this point.

Looks good, I started making a red one a while back, still haven't finished

I would probably just paint the roof white without the patterns and see how it looks, but I guess it depends, what would the patterns look like?

The color is very hot. Looks awesome. I'm not sure about the styling of the car. I'm still kind of split on that. The color though. Looks awesome on there.

I'd paint the roof white with no patterns, too, like Jonno said. But then you're the one building all the kick ass lowriders so who am I to argue with you? The white roof will look boss patterns or no, but might be better balanced by a white tonneau cover. Just a though. The trim and badges should all be silver, I'd say, blue and gold don't really look good together, plus you already have plenty of chrome on the bumpers and the rims and if they matched it would be nice and clean overall.

This is gorgeous! I'd have never considered this for lowrider treatment yet it works really well. Coolness in the xtreme! I can't wait to see more. I think I'd add a little mettalic or pearl to a white roof on it. I very subtle bluey-pinky kind of pearl over white would go well IMO. What's the kit? Who makes it?

I had a Supercharged Ford V6 from a Thunderbird kit knocking around somewhere that you can have... might be a bit different? If you interested I'll dig it out and see if I still have all the bits.

Re: A different type of a different car. Updated progress.

I say leave the roof as is and give it a satin white tonneau cover. Or even sand down the little screws and make it smooth then get a mural on it. I used to go to nail doing places and get stuff airbrushed 5-10 bucks max(but I never got a full mural airbrushed on)

Looks excellent so far. My dad had a Falcon almost exactly identical to the one in the first picture when he was younger. Hope to see some more progress soon.

Looks good, My way of making a ford smallblock: Turn the oil pan and intake backwards so the distrib. and sump are in the front of the motor, also, some Cobra valve covers go nicely on it. lil blue paint, and puff I have a ford.

Re: A different type of a different car. Updated progress.

Thanks, yeah any help with an engine would be really appreciated, I rarely build a Ford so I have no Ford engines, I don't want to use one of my Chevys in it.
I don't know what to do for the roof, all the suggestions have so far leveled it out in my opinion.
I'll do the trim silver, blue and silver contrast well on Lowriders.
