I have a 1995 chev K2500 pickup w/ auto trans. For the past several years I have a had an occasional no start problem on the first start of the day only . Turns over fine, but no spark. At first you could wiggle or even just touch the low voltage pink and white wire plugs at the coil and the and distributor and it would start right up, and never happen again for days or months. Then one time I had to replace the module inside the distributor, the pickup, rotor and one of the (LV) wires and plugs, and then it was good for almost a year. Then it happened again after it had warmed up out on some errands (1st time ever), towed to the dealer and everything was taken apart, checked, found to be OK, reassembled and it started right up. Then 6 months later it happened again, replaced the module just for grins and it started right up and was good for another 6 months. Now the problem is back and unplugging the wires etc. makes no difference. Any ideas ?

Re: 95 K 2500 454 intermittent ignition start problem
Is it still having problems only on the first start of the day, and not after it's warmed up? I noticed that one breakdown occurred after it was warmed up. Was this on a hot day?

Re: 95 K 2500 454 intermittent ignition start problem
That was the only time it was not a 1st start of the day occurance and it was a cool day (50F). I did manage to get it started yesterday after removing the air cleaner and wiggling the white and pink low volatage leads and plugs to the coil and distributor several times. I just went out and tried it this morning and it started right up. I've also tried swapping out coils (no change) in the past. All of the electrical checks in the Haynes book have been done several times and always check out fine. The only thing I've noticed is that the pink wire to the distributor from the ignition switch seems slightly swelled at the plug to the distributor. It always checks out fine even when wiggling it while metering though, and why it would only affect the first start makes no sense. I've ruled out any fuel related issues by dribbling gas into the throttle body, but there is not a hint of firing...
