Rear blower?

The problem: While sitting for a short time (1 month approx) the rear blower decided to die.

Yup. It sat for about a month or so, and when last driven the rear unit worked just fine. After fixing the front door (which was perma-locked, forcing me to enter/exit from the passenger side for months) I fired up the bus, and there was literally no air coming out from the back, not from the front switch by me, not from the rear switches (when set up front as such).

The upper/lower switch/LEDs function properly, but no fan/air whatsoever.

Recommendations? Checked fuses (under hood, which mentioned rear ac), all are fine.

The A/C control board is shot, this causes the rear blower not to operate, search this site for more info, common problem. let us know if you need additional assistance

I saw posts before I posted this, but they all referred to a climate control, and were for vehicles newer than my 1995 (well cept one offhand). I figured like one of my other cars, maybe the Villager had a climate control optional (that I don't have). I take it then that they are referring to climate control as simply that portion of the dash, and not an actual climate control?

A climate control (to me anyway) is the option on some cars where you set the temp (in degrees) and it automatically heats/cools/control blower speed automatically..

Hope so, because I'm all about getting the soldering iron out

The climate control that I am referring to is a total manual system. You select A/C or heat and adjust the temp with a dial. Fan speed is controller via a switch.

Power to the rear blower is supplied via a contact on the front module, and this contact becomes defective. I simple "jumped" across the contact and my system has been running fine for around two years now. The only thing issue with this repair is that you must place the front module, "rear" control switch to the "off" position when you shut the van off otherwise the fan can run at all times.

To rule out the blower being bad, access the rear blower, via the access panel and put 12 volts accross the blower motor if it runs I'll bet your problem is in the front control module as described.


I really like these vans I own (2) both 1998 one 151K the other 100K on them, the Haynes manual is pretty good, it's only screwed me up once, I do all my own repairs. I presently have a problem with my rear hatch, sounds like the lock motor like you describe with your drivers door, I'll tackle it when I get some motivation. Winter is comming shortly.

I pulled the unit, no such luck with any solder issues. Relay is on there perfectly fine. I did try the jumper wire trick though, just to see what would happen, and sure enough, the rear blower whirred to life!

I I'm guessing that it's just that the relay actually went bad. Question now is do I try and track one down (are they realistically priced?) or do I try soldering jumper wires to the board as that site recommended doing if the solder/traces were cooked? Thoughts?

Try a junk yard or ebay for the control unit, around 80 or so.

Or just make up a jumper wire with terminal connectors remove the relay wires from the front control unit and install the jumper.this will bypass the fan relay and the fan will run via the switch, just don't forget to shut the fan switch off when you turn the van off or it will run and drain your battery.
