Its "hot" in my 96 explorer!!!! Whats a girl to do???

When I bought my 96 explorer, the previous owner told me not to touch the temp control switch as something was wrong with it, but left where it was the heater or a/c would work depending on which I had it switched to. Someone got into my vehicle not knowing this and turned it to hot and now, when on A/C or heater, it only blows out hot air. I know it can blow cool air as it did it prior to being messed with. The old owner said that the switch was bad, and that it needed to be replaced. Does anyone have any insite on this and if the switch alone can be replaced, is it difficult?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Amy

Does your Explorer have the manual temp control (knobs and/or levers) or the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC)? If the manual controls, the control panel can be changed out by itself and may fix the issue. If the EATC, that control head can be switched out, but before doing so, I'd suggest you run the self diagnostics on it.
