Re: Tranny Leak HELP!!!!
My tranny was jb welded for years and it always seeped a little bit, I really dont know of anything that would hold against oil. On an oily surface.

Re: Tranny Leak HELP!!!!
Nah dude.. if you can deal w/o the car for a few days, drain/degrease the tranny underneath, get it good and dry, wipe it down w/ oil.. from here you have two or three options... since you've already got JB on it, chip it off as much as you can.. first off.
from there: 1> use a small MAPP gas torch and some lead to cover the seam. 2> backfill the area and at least 6-8" on the seam around it w/ solder and flux 3> Use this stuff called PC-7 Epoxy (it's plastic epoxy that is thinner than JB weld, and bonds almost instantly.. will set up overnight.) You can use any of the three, or all three, if you really wanna make sure it never leaks again... if you solder or lead it, you have to make sure you get the flux into every crack/crevice you want lead or solder in, else it will just leak around it... the idea is to get the lead/solder into the seam, so it expands and seals it... basically, heat up the seam a little bit, and then touch the solder to it... as the solder melts, it will travel into the seam, just like with water pipes in a house. Those are the best options.. i've put a small piece back into a tranny casing when there was a hole in it w/ lead and covered it w/ PC-7. Lead is a very common candidate for backfilling low spots in older car bodies, and filling seams.. yes, it weighs alot, but it also holds paint just like steel does, and it will stay there forever, as opposed to body filler or fiberglass, which over time will just crack and fall out... Best help I can give you, but those will all work, as long as you drain the tranny and clean/degrease that spot really really really really really really well. |
