Angry slippin tranny no fuel pump

I let my uncle use my truck to move some stuff yesterday. when he brought it back to me the thing will barely move. it slips really bad. when its cold it works pretty good, but reverse is iffy. when it wont go into reverse if i shut it off and restart it reverse will work for a lil bit. but now my fuel pump quit again. i thought i read about some safety feature one time that will shut down your fuel system if the tranny is going bad. is this true?
it is a 1996 GMC seirra k1500 with the 5.7

this sounds crazy but i was told that if the computer doesnt sence the right fuel pressure the tranny wont shift.

Sounds like somebody's taking you for a ride. The engine computer (PCM) knows nothing of the fuel system pressure. All it does is turn on the fuel pump relay. The pcm will prime the fuel pump at key on for about 2 seconds. If it doesn't detect any engine rpm after that point (i.e; the engine cranking and starting), it shuts off the relay until the engine is cranked.

If any part of the fuel pump relay circuit fails, the oil pressure switch will supply turn-on voltage to the fuel pump once the engine has 4 psi oil pressure while cranking. It's a redundant circuit.
