Exclamation Upper Engine mount insert Install (2.4L, 2.2OHV, 2200 wit pics)

Some of you may know i bought the TTR upper mount replacement for my 2200, so instead of letting my old upper insert just collect dust and be useless I offered it up to another member here on the board. I'm putting this up for him to see how to install the mount and for others who may consider this mod...

First of all, you need to support the engine because the upper mount actually holds the engine up a great deal. So support it ( DON'T LIFT IT) at any of these red locations i have marked. I use the one where the red arrow is since my floor jack pad is large. DO NOT USE YOUR OIL PAN and on a level surface. If not, when you remove the main bolts the engine wall fall backwards and outta alignment. ( Been here before)

Stock mount looks like this.

Gather your goodies to install and these tools plus a flat head screw driver.
13mm Deep well socket
15mm ' ' '
Dish Soap

Now since i was removing this for Derek the mount will be installed for the next steps while i remove the parts needed to install this sucka.

1) Get your coolant resovoir out of the way. There is one 10mm bolt that holes that in place along with against the side of the fender wall. This is where you need the screw driver to carfully manuever it out of its spot. Also remove the plastic bracket that holds the A/c return lines to the collector. Its the plastic part in the pic shown above.

2) Loosen with 15mm socket all 3 nuts around the base of the mount. Loosen, do not remove.

3) Use the same 15mm wrench and remove the 2 main engine bolts that attach to the engine. This is where you need to be careful to make sure your jack is in place and start backing one bolt little way out, and keep going back and forth from bolt to bolt while removing them. You will see a gap start to form between the head of the engine and the motor mount. This is fine and normal. Expect anywhere from 1"-1.5" of gap to form. The stock mount has ALOT of weight on it and the rubber is just going back into a neutral position.....onwards..

4) Finish remove the 3 nuts from the engine mount and completely remove the mount from the vehicle to work on it.

5) Mount with top plate removed..

6) There are 2 -13mm bolts below that that need to come out.

7) This will leave the open slot needed to install the insert. Get your soap and lather her up real good as when they are new they are going to be a very snug fit and need it. When derek gets mine, it has already been broke in and won't be that way. But i would still use some soap buddy.

Fully seated

ready to go back into the vehcile...

retork everything to spec.

Nah buddy, its a piece of cake.

Should be in your mail box tuesday. No mail tomorrow, sending it regular mail is getting it there the same time as it would have been sending it priority. So you got it 1st class mail and i got an ice tea from the gas station across the road with the left over change. Ha ha.

After having the whole brand new mounts made by turbotech, the old inserts felt like crap compared to the new ones. When i get my eco swap down. I'll have the full replacement upper from rksport, lower dogbone from prothane and turbotechracing soild auto trans mount. This should be interesting. If you run into any snags, feel free to PM me. Oh, be sure do do this on a level surface when you support the motor with the jack. I had a motor rock backwards on me while on an inclined driveway. I had to physically grab the motor and pull it forwards while someone else put in the top bolts. What a bitch.
