pully alignment
I have a 68 chevelle and am having problems with the mounting and alignment of p/s pump and alternator. The 68 had a 327 and now I have a 350 in it.(68 didn't have a 350) Should I be using brackets and pullys for a 69 which has a s/b 350? The 68 mounting brackets and pullys don't line up.

Re: pully alignment
Have you tried the entire set from the 327? That should work, make sure you don't lose any of those spacer washers. Just about any COMPLETE set of pulleys, power steering pump that fits a Chevelle should work. Mix and matching parts is to be avoided.

Re: pully alignment
The secret is that there are pulleys and brackets for a short water pump and a long water pump. Do not mix and match.
The long pump was introduced in later years because the front of the car was longer. Other than that there is no advantage from one pump or the other. Use the correct pump for the 68 327.

Re: pully alignment
I thought everyone was hip to the short and long water pump thing. That is cause for a MAJOR misalignment. But good that you brought it up, it may help the guy or someone else here.

Re: pully alignment
'68 Chevelles had 350s. You need the water pump, power steering pump and pullys off a '64 to '68 small block.
Starting in '69 they went to the long water pump and moved the alternator to the right (passenger) side. Your '68 has the alternator on the left (driver) side. |

Re: pully alignment
What year is the 350? It may not have the right mounting holes?
