93 Pontiac Grand Prix
Hoping someone can help....I have a 93 Pontiac Grand Prix SE and I cant get it started. MY son thought he ran it out of gas....put gas in it and tried to start....It tried to turn over but wouldnt stay running. Now it cranks but wont turn over. The tank and fuel pump arent that old. The fuel lines have been replaced and it ran just fine till the out of fuel problem.
Could this be a fuel pump issue?....I dont hear the pump prime up when I turn on the key. This is a V-6 3.1. Please help. Thank You!! |

Re: 93 Pontiac Grand Prix
next step would be to check for battery voltage and for ground back at the fuel pump connector when the key is first turned on. I think the grey wire is B+ and black is ground. If you see batt voltage, your going back into the tank to change the pump again...

Re: 93 Pontiac Grand Prix
Welcome to AF
If he constantly runs the car on empty (at $3 a gallon, I don't really blame him), then the pump is probably shot. Fuel in the tank helps keep the pump cool. Also, if the replacement pump is the Master or Airtex brand that many of the chain auto parts stores sell, it's toast, as they are junk. Stick with an AC-Delco pump if you can.
