Re: REPLACE WHEEL HUB or CV JOINT? NEED HELP
Welcome to AF.
The airplane or humming sound is typically a bad wheel bearing which is part of the hub. Does the sound change when you turn steering to the left or right?

Re: 2002 Grand Prix Noisy Hub/Wheel Bearing
I currently have this same problem, only my friend described it best so far; it sounds like a sick cow mooing. I've checked around, and the price to replace the hub assembly has ranged from $304 to $376. However, when I talk to the shops, I've been told by some that you can simply replace the bearings only, and some say the whole assembly needs replaced since the computer readings and sensors are tied into it. So, I'm not sure who's right. I have a 2001 Gr. Prix GT.

Re: 2002 Grand Prix Noisy Hub/Wheel Bearing
got to change the assemly as a whole. 300 bucks seems kind of steep. This is defenatly a DIYer job. I've got the time of changing a hub on a fwd car down to about a half hour to 45 minutes depending on how rusted everything is.
There is a step by step walk through article in the tips and maintenance section that our moderators put together. I would check that out. It might even give part numbers and torque specs.
