Program automatic door locks
I have recently purchased a 2001 GMC Sierra, and my friend purchased a 2002 GMC Sierra. My door lock are set to lock once I reach the speed to 15 miles an hour, and unlock when I remove the key from the ignition, His locks when the vehicle is shifted from park, and unlocks when you shift back into park. Reading his book mine is using the program for GMC with manual transmission, but mine is a automatic transmission. I just spoke to a dealer that said that he may be able to program mine to be like his, but it would cost around $50. Is there anyone that knows how an individual can program his to lock when shift from park, and then unlock when the vehicle is shifted into park.

Re: Program automatic door locks
What you have is the default factory settings for any auto trans.
On my 2008, I can program how the door lock function but 1996 and prior require the dealer scan tool. So you are SOL unless you are willing to pay the labor to the dealer.

Re: Program automatic door locks
It would be nice if I didn't have to go to the dealer, I figured that there was some kind of trick as there is to change what doors lock, and don't lock. I don't see why they made this change from 01, to 02.

Sorry, thats the way it is. No tricks to he had.
Whats the old saying? "Can't please all the poeple, all the time" My 99, 01 and 04 trucks were like yours and I was perfectly happy with it.
