High Compression

Hey all,

I was wondering if raising the compression ratio on nitro engines have any negative effects?

I ask because i have already done so, but i am yet to take it for a hard spin. I've only removed the standard cooling head shim and sanded down the cylinder sleeve(if that's what it's called..lol).

I thought I'd give higher compression ago only because i needed to rebuild the engine due too falling into a ditch full of water.

Thanks in advance

Bryan

Re: High Compression

raising the compression is only used to run a higher percentage of nitro, it doesnt increase power on the same nitro, it may even run worse now that you did that.

Re: High Compression

if it was broke in and ran on 15% its a bad idea to change percentages this late in the game.

i would just spring for a new motor if its wore out, run that one on 20% though

Re: High Compression

cool, good thing you said 20% i would of definitely gone higher. I've got a stable job now so i will get a massive engine like i planned before i just hope gears for a TGS-R aren't expensive.

Re: High Compression

Raising the compression ratio (i.e. removing head shims) will tend to push combustion earlier in the cycle for a given nitro %age, which taken to extremes will cause detonation, more heat and a lot of stress on your motor. If you have removed shims from the head you want to DROP the nitro %age you run not increase it as that will increase the likelly hood of detonation.

There are plenty of good sites out there with information on how this all works! Best check them out before doing potentially expensive damage to your motor...
