Fixed Door Check! Read if you have door problems!

Anyone know of a place where i can get a new door check, or i might just need a new bushing for the pin, for a 2002 1500, i know i can probably go to the dealership, but i would like to avoid that, thanks!

Re: Door check and bushing

Ok, went the junk yard yesterday to grab a couple door checks out of a silverado. Here is what i found, the door check in my truck, 2002 1500, is a peice of strap steel sticking out of the door connected to a pin in the door jam, sort of looks like the type of pins for the door hindges with the bushing around it. Well my bushing was shot to everytime i opened and closed the door that spring loaded peice of strap steel would pop back and forth on the pin. So i got to the junk yard and the only truck they had was a 2002 GMC Sierra, opened the door and the door check looked different, the spring loaded shaft coming out of the door looked completely different than the one in my Chevy Silverado, but the design of the GMC looks dramatically different, and improved, so i took both sides and put one in my truck, and it works awesome the new one doesnt have the big pin with the bushing on it, its all part of the spring loaded shaft. It only took about 15 minutes to change and all it took to change it was a 10mm socket and ratchet and a flat head screw driver. So if you guys are having any trouble with the door poping when you open or close it check the door check, and if possible get one from a GMC, you will know when you see it. The GMC just look alot better, and the junk yard only charged me $10 for both of them! Good Luck!

Re: Door check and bushing

Its probably one of the easiest and fastest ways to fix a nusence of a problem. I dont know if you have ever had the door panel off but its almost easier than it looks or sounds, mine had power windows and locks so i didnt have the manual window crank or locking mechanism. Two bolts hold the door check assembly in the door and one bolt holds the other end to the body side of the door jam.
