Looking for help
I need help in determing the cause a problem I'm having with my 1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme with 4T60E tranny. The problem I'm having is with the transmission shift sequences that have been going on for about a year. The transmission shifts normal for 4or5 days. Then all of sudden,it starts shifting erratic.,shifting from 1and seeming to miss 2nd completely causing a lugging effect.Upon deceleration there's a jerky motion in the car itself.and when I'm preparing to come to a stop it sounds as if the tranny is gonna fall out with all the vibration.I guess it's on the down-shift when it does this.It will perform like this for about a week, then it begins to shift normal .There's no jerky motion on slow down,no noise. It down-shifts normal. Then after 4or5 days, the whole process starts all over again.I've had it scanned for codes with none being detected. Some mechanics say it sounds like an internal problem with some of the control valves, pressure valves, etc
I would like get any ones expert opinion or their experience with a problem like this with the 4T60E tranny and their remedy for getting the problem solved,if at all. |

Re: Looking for help
I know of alot of people who say getting a automatic transmission flushed does wonders, and they shift alot better afterwords. But your problem seems pretty serious and I would guess you are looking at some expensive repairs.
I would say check your fluids and maybe have the tranny flushed, but at this point in time that could be a lost cause, and waste of money. |

Re: Looking for help
Thanks nharstad for your input.it really sounds like I have a big problem.I went out and bought all 4 solenoids after I was told that was probably my problem. However, as I said, the scan showed no codes. So I guess I'll have to put 'em up for sale on E-Bay.I've also been told I probably have some sticking valves.Maybe if I just replace the control valve body and maybe the pump also, that may solve my problem...I've gotta try something. It's not slipping or anything it's just missing some shift sequences. It is very troublesome, not to mention 'annoying'...Very puzzling why it seems to shift normal for a few days, then upon leaving for work one morning,it starts the erratic shifting and down-shifting....Very confusing for me ,I must say.
Anyway,thanks for any advice...... |
