93 cutlass, wont turnover.

So i've got a 93 cutlass supreme, sedan and its just a little cream puff 60,000 miles on it. This problem just started within a month or two after i got it(in march). I always seem to end up waiting in a parking lot for it to start, it turns great i can hear it working but it just wont turnover for at least 5 to 10 seconds. So far, ive put in a bottle of injector fluid(wasnt sure if that'd help, but i knew it wouldnt hurt) and im going to head up to an AutoZone to have then check my sensors. The only thing i can think is that its maybe the temp. sensor.....

Anyone had this? What else can i do on my own before taking it into a shop?

Welcome to AF, AZ cannot scan an OBD1 car. This extensive crank time can be due to many things, low fuel pressure, leaking fuel press regulator, weak spark, worn plugs, dirty injectors among other things. A full scan is a starting point, done by a pro, not AZ even if they could.

Re: 93 cutlass, wont turnover.

Well, we didnt have time to do the scan so i didnt bother asking but i picked up a new temperature sensor and installed that. it started up great, that very well could be because i was running it right before going to the store(took a dif. car). I'll try it again later tonight and a few more times tomorrow. If this doesnt work, my next step will be to go for the spark plugs

Yes they can, a 1993 model only uses the little cheap scan tool even a common safetly clip would work to get the codes.
He said he couldn't get it to turnover, so will it even crank? I'm guessing so since he said it later ran good after installed a TS. You need to do a scan and see what codes are stored rather hard codes or intermentent. Take the battery cable off for about half an hour or remove the ECM fuse (same time frame) and drive car and rescan again. Basically, see if the codes come back. PM me for more help.

Re: 93 cutlass, wont turnover.

Az cannot and will not scan a obd1 car here in NYS, they could do it but they will not, there public use scanner is only obd11. Reading the thread, the scan was suggested, you can see there was no meaningful reply. What will all these disconnects and reboots do for the specific condition of extended crank time?

Were trying to see if their is a code stored here first? To help point him
in the direction of where the problem lies.

Correct ,that is what I suggested in my first post., it was not done based on no reply. The point is it is 6 weeks later and the thread is seemingly inactive.

I just found this site yesterday, so I can't help the 6 weeks later part.
However, I did register so I could help out as many people as possible. I've been doing mechanic work since I was a kid, thought I would try and help.

Thumbs up Re: 93 cutlass, wont turnover.

The 6 weeks issue is not directed to you, the point is after the above suggestions there are no replies, then you have the same basic suggestions, just commenting on the redundancy. Keep contributing where ever you feel comfortable,.
